¢ñ. Check-fly procedures
When taking a plane, how to choose a seat beside the window?
The airplane seat numbers from head to toe are row 123......, and the seats in each row are numbered A, B, C and D...... from left to right. When a passenger goes through the boarding procedure, he will get a boarding card, on which the seat number is marked. The seat number is composed of an Arabic number and an English alphabet, with the number showing the seat row, while the alphabet showing the specific seat in the row. For example, 5A means seat A in row 5, while 12D means seat D in row 12, and so on. If you take a Boeing 737, which has 6 seats in each row and the seats are numbered in English alphabets, seat A and seat F are beside the window in each row. If you take a plane with only 4 seats in each row, seat A and seat D are beside the window in each row. If you are a first-time airplane passenger and hope to have a seat beside the window, you can present your request to the airport staff when you go through the boarding procedure.
¢ò. Luggage transport
What kinds of luggage are not allowed on a plane?
Prohibited articles, restricted articles, dangerous articles prescribed by the government, and other articles with bad smell or prone to smudge the plane are not allowed to be transported on the plane as luggage or added into the luggage. In case the carrier finds any prohibited luggage or any prohibited article in the luggage when collecting the luggage or in the process of transportation, it can refuse to accept it or refuse to transport it. The edge tool or blunt tool other than controlled knives brought by the passenger shall be transported together with the luggage instead of being withthe passenger.
¢ó. Transportation Policy for Lithium Batteries in passengers' baggage.
1. In accordance with ICAO Technical Instructions for the Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air (Version 2011-2012), passengers or crew members may bring their personal-use portable electronic devices. containing lithium or lithium ion battery cells or batteries, including watches, calculators, cameras, mobile phones, laptop computers and portable video cameras, etc., as carry-on baggage on board the plane provided that the lithium content in the lithium metal battery does not exceed 2g and the rating of the lithium ion battery does not exceed 100Wh. Lithium ion batteries with a rating between 100Wh and 160Wh may be installed on devices packed in checked baggage or carry-on baggage with the approval of the airline. Lithium batteries exceeding 160Wh are prohibited in both carry-on and checked baggage.
2. Spare batteries for portable electronic devices should be wrapped individually to prevent short circuits and may only be transported in carry-on baggage. Place the batteries in their original retail packaging or insulate the electrodes using other means, such as using adhesive tape to cover the exposed electrodes, or place each battery into a separate plastic bag or protective box. Passengers and crew members are allowed to carry no more than two airline approved spare batteries with a rating of 100Wh but not exceeding 160Wh.
3. If passengers and crew members bring wheelchairs or other similar personal mobility vehicles powered by lithium ion batteries, or if passengers bring portable electronic medical devices containing lithium metal or lithium ion battery cells or batteries for medical use, they must comply with the transportation and packaging requirements specified in the Technical Instructions and approved by the airlines.
¢ô. Why boarding procedure shall be ceased 30 minutes ahead of time?
Firstly, we have to make clear what is taking off time? According to relevant stipulations of civil aviation administration, the taking off time shown on the flight schedule published to passengers refers to the time when ground security work is finished and passenger door and luggage door of the plane are closed, instead of the time when the plane takes off. Secondly, during the interval between ceasing the boarding procedure and closing the airplane doors, what kinds of work the airport staff have to do? They are mainly the following tasks:
1. The ground staff have to count the passenger number and luggage number, estimate the luggage weight to calculate the plane loading, draw the balance schedule and the gravity center position, prepare the shipping bills and submit to the airplane crew for signature;
2. Double check the luggage consigned by passengers and load them onto the plane;
3. Conduct security inspection of the passengers having gone through the boarding procedure;
4. Notify through broadcast passengers to check in at the designated boarding gate, and guide passengers to board the plane. In case passengers need to be transported by a ferry bus, the time will be longer;
5. Count the passenger number on the plane, so as to double check with the ground ticket check-in.
In all, in the 30 minutes between ceasing the boarding procedure and closing the plane doors, the airport still has a lot of work to do. In case of lateness, the plane might be postponed. Transport Service Regulation of Public Aviation specifically stipulates that plane boarding procedure shall be started not later than 60 minutes before taking off for planes with less than 100 seats and not later than 90 minutes before taking off forplanes with more than 100 seats. In order to ensure on-time taking off, the airport must strictly follow the stipulation of ceasing the plane boarding procedure 30 minutes ahead of time. Thus, the passengers shall have solid punctuality awareness, arrive at the airport on time to go through the boarding procedure and then wait for the plane in the specified area.
